VIA C3™ Processor Power Saver Feature

This document describes the necessary steps to activate the Power Saver feature (previously known as Longhaul) for VIA C3 processors, thereby making it possible to dynamically adjust the processor clock frequency according to system workload. The Power Saver feature is considered experimental at this time.

Nehemiah Hardware Random Number Generator Linux Driver & Test Utility Usage Guide

The VIA C3 Nehemiah processor includes a high-performance hardware-based random number generator (RNG) on the processor die. The kernel starts to have a driver supporting the RNG from version 2.5.65. This document describes how to update the kernel and then make use of the RNG. We also offer a test utility with source code for users’ immediate evaluation.

Hardware Monitor

These guides show how to install the LM_Sensors package to enable the hardware monitoring functions for VIA southbridge chips VT82C686B and VT8231, and Low-Pin-Count Super I/O chip VT1211 that integrate a hardware monitor controller. The LM_Sensors package includes necessary hardware monitor and SMBus drivers for other utilities to acquire system-wide PC health information such as voltage, temperature, and fan speed. For systems using VIA south bridge chips but with other vendors’ hardware monitor chips, we provide a sample program for reading data via the SMBus to facilitate users’ test and development.

Printer Driver Installation Guide

This guide provides information about printer driver installation covering printers using parallel or USB port for VIA’s southbridge chips VT82C686B, VT8231, and VT8233 under Red Flag Linux 3.0. The XW tools supports various printer types and thus is recommended. For testing purposes, we print different file formats including word, text, image (.jpg or .gif), Excel, and PDF using the office application Star Suite 6.0.
